Manufacturing Project Manager/Estimator

CHL Systems is a custom equipment supplier that provides project management, engineering, design, manufacturing and installation services for a variety of industries including food, pharma and heavy industry to name a few.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and results-driven individual to develop quotations which encompass the total cost of manufacturing components and assemblies and manage the project through Manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have the capability to analyze drawings and specifications, estimate and price labor, materials, and outside services needed to complete the project. This candidate will be creative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define project scope, schedule, cost, change management, and risk analysis
  • Verify the project scope is appropriate for CHL’s capabilities at start of project
  • Review customer RFQ’s and determine material requirements, processing, and job routing
  • Collaborate with Engineering to develop a cost-effective design
  • Assist Sales Team with estimates
  • Responsible for the manufacturing, schedule, and cost of assigned projects
  • Initiate and monitor all project activities to ensure schedule adherence and cost effective execution
  • Schedule and conduct project review meetings
  • Develop the Manufacturing scope of supply, as needed
  • Coordinate and problem solve project scope with Sales and/or Engineering
  • Evaluate outsource options as necessary
  • Ensure schedule and cost changes are communicated to Sales and/or Engineering
  • Analyze variances between estimated cost quotes and actual cost to effectively evaluate the adequacy and accuracy of the manufacturing build
  • Travel to customer sites (<10%), as required

Job Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-3 years experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 2-4 years experience estimating
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with drafting and modeling software such as Solid Works, a plus
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and how it affects manufacturability, a plus
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, fabrication, and machining
  • Working knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing, and drafting symbology related to welding, sheet metal, structural steel construction and other related disciplines
  • Excellent organizational time management skills and strong interpersonal skills (verbal & written)
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of machines, tools, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a multitude of processes
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented environment is essential
  • Capacity to make independent decisions and substantiate them
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications
