Electrical Designer

 

We are currently seeking an Electrical Designer to work with controls engineers and project managers to develop design solutions that satisfy the customer’s needs based on functional requirements and project objectives. This position reports directly to the Principal Engineer – Automation & Controls, with dotted line responsibilities to controls lead engineer.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create electrical wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cabling, and field wiring schematics for various automation systems including but not limited to conveyors, p, and custom machinery.
  • Work alongside controls engineers and project managers to solve the customer’s problems and translate into working drawings.
  • Engages equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.
  • Determine if sufficient information is available to design the system.  Resourcefully acquires any data that isn’t supplied, and advises the project manager on the findings.
  • Review project drawings, sketches, and design data with engineering and/or project management staff to determine job requirements and follow them through to completion with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Identifies potential design problems as well as long lead items.
  • Builds/assembles panels and/or supervises others in panel building and field wiring activities.
  • Travel to job-sites for system installations and to perform field wiring and electrical troubleshooting.
  • All other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent software.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an electrical design/manufacturing environment or discipline. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical control system design with specific knowledge in including AC motor controls, PLCs, servo controls, field I/O, cabling.
  • Possesses problem-solving abilities.  May require assistance from an engineer to properly size and analyze very complex components.
  • Familiar with commercial components and able to research them effectively.
  • PLC programming, drive commissioning, field startup experience a plus.
  • Must be a good communicator to effectively focus on customers, drive for results and think analytically.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crawl, reach and feel with hands
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
