Mechanical Designer - Engineering

An exciting position is currently available in our Engineering Department for a Mechanical Designer with proven experience in a Design/Build environment.  Any experience in our company core industries inclusive of Food Processing and Industrial Automation, helpful.  This position will work as an integral part of our custom equipment engineering team.  The individual must have a diverse background that includes a working knowledge of mechanical equipment design, control systems/methodologies and other applicable technologies in order to be a major contributor to the design, implementation and testing of custom electro-mechanical equipment.      

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work independently on small-sized projects from concept to drawing completion.
  • Work closely with a variety of other departments such as Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing and Technical Service to understand system requirements and develop workable design concepts and cost estimates.
  • Execute all projects successfully based on the defined requirements – scope, schedule and budget.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during all phases of the project.
  • Ensure all subsystem/feature designs “fit” together.
  • Ensure all equipment and designs meet industry safety standards.
  • Coordinate preparation and delivery of all design documents, drawings and BOM’s.
  • Travel to job sites, as required, to support projects.
  • Demonstrate integrity and adhere to the company’s code of conduct and business ethics standards.
  • Ensure that company standards are met at all times.
  • Good communication skills, focus on customers, drive results and think analytically.
  • Reports directly to Engineering Manager with dotted line responsibilities to Account Manager, Project Manager and Project Engineer as required by specific project.
  • All other responsibilities, as assigned. 

 Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in an engineering-related major with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an equipment design environment or non-degreed professional with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Design software experience, required.  Proficiency in SolidWorks or related solid modeling package; experience with AutoCAD or other 2D CAD packages a plus.
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be an integral part of a design team on a large project with ability to independently lead smaller projects, as well.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to handle multiple assignments at one time.
